THE MEANING OF YELLOW
Yellow, we love it, we celebrate it! Flagship color of 2022, it is rich of a history made of ups and downs. The supreme color of the sun, of celebration and joy, bright yellow is a concentrate of energy in itself. It can brighten up a world and make it shine.
In psychology, yellow is unconsciously associated with pleasure and values of originality. It conveys optimism and youth and attracts attention to itself. The emotions attached to it are therefore positive emotions!
THE RICH HISTORY OF A BRIGHT COLOR
In ancient times, people perceived yellow as the color of the sacred. It represented light, warmth and prosperity.
The Greeks and Romans gave it an important place in religious rituals, while the Celts and Germans associated it with gold and immortality.
This prosperous period preceded a long decline for this unique color. It became a synonym for mysticism and was associated with the color of sulfur. It became a negative adjective, like “yellow laughter”, which designates hypocrisy and perfidy.
It is only recently that the yellow has regained its letters of nobility. Thanks to its use during the Tour de France, yellow became synonymous with victory and dynamism.
Today, yellow is even becoming an essential color. Star color of 2021, it remains on the same trend in 2022. Yes, yellow is indeed the ultimate fashion trend of the year in terms of color. Although dethroned by the Very Peri, the bright yellow never stops being cited. A nice revenge!
HOW TO WEAR YELLOW?
At first glance, it’s easy to see why yellow can be scary. It’s very bright and it seems to be so quickly approaching a faux pas with this shade. We fear to assert ourselves too much and to denote in a too extravagant way by wearing it.
But we will be the first to advise you above all to enjoy yourself without rules or constraints. We are convinced that color combinations should not be governed by rules. Apart from a few basics that should be kept to a minimum, colors are a reflection of the soul, and should not be used sparingly.
But, as we know that it is sometimes difficult to choose a combination among all the available colors, we still point you towards some tracks to be sure to look like a Queen!
The color that we immediately associate with yellow is gray. Like the 2021 flagship color combination of UltimateGray and Illuminating, yellow goes hand in hand with light gray. It helps to “calm” the color and, conversely, the yellow brightens up the gray and revives it. This combination of colors deprives it somewhat of its warm aspect, but reinforces its luminosity.
Otherwise, you can also combine this bright color with white or black for a chic and shocking effect ;) .
Our favorite combinations: At Ciléa, our favorite combination is pale yellow with a purple color for a pastel and soothing effect! Purple is the complementary color of yellow, so it all makes sense, right? We can sometimes deviate to pinker shades without risk as long as they remain just as pastel. The result? A look that’s both original and elegant.
We like to add it in small touches by accessories. A little brooch on a sweater is a must to personalize your outfit.
